The death toll in China from a new strain of bird flu has risen to 9. Authorities are assuring that a vaccine should be ready within months. The H7N9 strain which was confirmed in humans for the first time last month has now infected 28 people, all of them in Eastern China. The exact source of the infection remains unknown. All those samples that tested positive in some birds remain the focus of investigation by China and the UN’s FAO. Head Veterinarian at FAO, Juan Lubroth, spoke to Vatican radio about this latest outbreak.
