UN High Commission for Human Rights warns Boko Haram
The spokesperson of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Rupert Colville, has warned Boko Haram Islamic militants in Nigeria that they could be charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity for their deliberate acts of killing people on ethnic and religious grounds. Mr. Colville made the warning on Thursday in Geneva in a press briefing after it was announced that Nigeria had begun an offensive against the militants in three states in the north of the country. He said Boko Haram had committed international crimes by targeting innocent civilians. He appealed to the government of Nigeria to respect human rights in its offensive.
