The government of Cape Verde and the Holy See have signed an agreement on the status of the Catholic Church as a Juridical Person. The agreement was signed on Monday in the capital of Cape Verde, Praia. The Holy See’s Secretary for Relations with States, archbishop Dominique Mamberti signed on behalf of the Holy See and the Prime-minister of Cape Verde, Mr. Josè Maria Neves signed on behalf of the Republic of Cape Verde. The agreement guarantees the juridical status of the Catholic church in the country and recognises Catholic marriage, places of worship, Catholic schools, the teaching of religion in schools and the Catholic Church’s Charitable activities in Cape Verde among other things. The agreement will become operational when the two parties exchange the instruments of ratification.
