Vatican City, 15 June 2013: With the approval of the Holy Father, the Supervisory Commission of Cardinals responsible for the Institute for Works of Religion or IOR, has appointed Bishop Baptista Mario Salvatore Ricca as its interim Prelate, a Vatican communique revealed on Saturday. He will play the role of secretary of the meetings of the Commission of Cardinals and assist in meetings of the Board of Superintendence, according to the Statutes of the Institute. Bishop Rich Battista, born in 1956, is part of the Diplomatic service.
With the appointment of Ernst von Freyberg as President and Bishop Ricca as Prelate, the Commission of Cardinals has occupied the two important positions provided by Statutes of the IOR, which had remained vacant for some time. The appointment of Bishop Ricca is with immediate effect, the communique added.
