Many Children in Nigeria contracting HIV virus, says UN report
A report released by the United Nations says Nigeria ranks first in the number of children contracting the HIV virus. It says nearly 60,000 Nigerian children were infected with the virus in 2012, a figure higher than that of any other country in the world. UN officials described the Nigerian situation as worrying and called upon the government to do what it could to reverse this trend. The report, has the title: 2013 PROGRESS REPORT ON THE GLOBAL PLAN: towards the elimination of new HIV infections among children by 2015 and keeping their mothers alive. It acknowledges the efforts of the federal and state governments of Nigeria in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic, but encourages them to double them.
