Fighting erupts in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo
Civilians in eastern Congo say heavy fighting has erupted after more than 100 armed men disguised in women's clothing entered the country from Rwanda on Sunday. Residents say the fighting between government forces and the M23 rebels continued Monday morning after starting Sunday afternoon and continuing until dusk.
Witnesses on the front line between the Congolese army and the M23 rebels, said the armed men arriving from Rwanda were dressed like women, and reinforced the M23 rebels. United Nations experts allege that Rwandan soldiers have joined the M23 rebels in recent months, a claim Rwanda denies. Both sides blame each other for the renewed fighting.
