UK Church leaders congratulate Royal couple on baby's birth

(Vatican Radio) The head of the Catholic bishops conference of England and Wales, Archbishop Vincent Nichols and the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby have sent their congratulations, along with millions of other well-wishers celebrating the birth of the new British royal baby. Crowds descended on Buckingham Palace yesterday afternoon as the announcement was made that the Duchess of Cambridge had given birth to an 8lb 6oz baby boy at St Mary’s hospital in London.
In a message sent shortly after the news was announced by a traditional town crier, Archbishop Welby said “I am delighted to congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the arrival of their baby boy. Along with millions here and around the world, I share in their joy at this special time. May God bless this family with love, health and happiness in their shared life ahead.”
Sending good wishes on behalf of the Catholic bishops conference, Archbishop Nichols said the birth of the new Prince will be a source of joy, not only for the Royal Family, but for the peoples of the United Kingdom and beyond. May Our Lord Jesus Christ bless and protect them, and may the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Joseph intercede for them.”
