The Irish celebrate "Rio in Dublin"

(Vatican Radio) As young people from around the world celebrate World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro young Irish pilgrims who are unable to make the trip are being given the chance to capture the atmosphere of the Brazilian city in Dublin. The event called “Rio In Dublin” has been organised by the Archdiocese of Dublin’s Office of Evangelisation and Ecumenism.
So what can young people expect from this gathering? Well, it promises to have many of the events that will be going on in Rio including, catechises, Rosary, and workshops.
Hosting the young people will be St Mary of the Angels Capuchin Church and Day Centre on Church Street in the centre of the city.
“On the ground there is huge goodwill and huge enthusiasm as far as I can see for this youth project says Father Bryan Shortall, Capuchin Franciscan and Parish Priest.
Fr Bryan adds that perhaps one of the reasons their day centre was chosen as the venue for the event is probably because there is a tangible link between what Pope Francis is saying regarding the poor and the work that the centre does, which is also named after St Francis.
"Rio in Dublin" runs from 27-28 July. Listen to Lydia O’Kane’s interview with Fr Brian Shortall RealAudioMP3
