Philippine conference for renewed faith life

August 19, 2013 - The Philippine Catholic Church is hosting an important Asian meeting in October to help counter the secularist influences hounding faith life.. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Archbishop of Manila said the Philippine Conference on New Evangelization (PCNE) to be held October 16 - 18 in the capital’s University of Santo Tomas would lead its Asian delegates toward the rediscovery and rejuvenation of their faith, keeping the church's mission of new evangelization in tune with the modern times. "There are parts of the world where the faith has become some kind of extracurricular activity which some even say you can do without," Card. Tagle said. "This drive has a destination, we would like to reach people who have yet to hear about Jesus for this is a constant mission of the church," he added. Delegates from Taiwan, Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, and Myanmar will attend the event, he said. The prelate said the conference aims to create an experience of God in the context of the challenges of the new millennium, strengthen bonds of communion, and provide avenues of inspiration and direction imbued with the spirit of new evangelization. Cardinal Tagle hoped the 3-day conference will help usher in a renewed experience of Jesus. He also said that the conference aims to keep the mission of new evangelization alive amid changes brought by modernization.
