Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello prays with the faithful in Benin at the country’s annual Marian pilgrimage
The Catholic faithful in the Republic of Benin have concluded their annual pilgrimage to the Marian shrine of Dassa-Zoumé. This year’s pilgrimage to the Grotto of Notre Dame d’Arigbo was held under the theme: Mary Model of Christian life. Closing the celebrations this year was Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State on the invitation of the country’s bishops. Commenting on the theme in an interview with the catholic newspaper “La Croix of Benin” cardinal Bertello said the Catholic faithful can live their daily lives taking Mary as their model and bearing witness to the Gospel. As a community of believers, he continued, we must endeavor to translate into reality the teaching of Jesus, taking the word of God to those who have not known the Lord or those who have distanced themselves from the Church. Cardinal Bertello said his visits to the various dioceses in Benin was like a pilgrimage for him, praying with the Catholic faithful he met and extending to them the blessings of Pope Francis.
