Remembering John Paul I ...

(Vatican Radio) It was August 26th 1978 when the Cardinal Patriarch of Venice, Albino Luciani was elected to the See of Peter. He would be Pope for only thirty- three days. Veronica Scarisbrick brings you echoes of his pontificate:
"1978 has gone down in the history of the Catholic Church as the year of the three popes. When Paul VI died on August 6th 1968 at the age of 81 after a sixteen year pontificate the man to succeed him as Successor of Peter was the Cardinal Patriarch of Venice, Albino Luciani. As we know he took the name of John Paul I on the 26th of that same month ..
One of those to take part in the conclave that elected him was American, Cardinal William Wakefield Baum. He recalls how the pontificate of John Paul I represented a significant moment for the Church: a moment of grace...".
