Rome, 28 September 2013: Vatican Radio bestowed its meritorious service awards for 2013 to four of its staff on Saturday on the Feast of St. Gabriel, Patron of the Vatican Radio. Among them is Juliet Christopher from the Hindi language service of Vatican Radio’s South Asian Section. Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli, President of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, was the chief guest on the occasion and gave away the awards.
Introducing Juliet Christopher, Father Andrea Koprowski, S.J, program director of Vatican Radio said that she has been working in the Hindi language of Vatican Radio’s South Asian Section for the last 25 years. He highlighted her dedication, journalistic professionalism, and deep sense of Christian values. These, he said, helps her much to explain the teaching of the Pope and of the Church with considerable proficiency. Juliet not only contributes to the audio, but also to the website and the newsletter in Hindi, which are sent daily to more than 4,000 subscribers.
Father Federico Lombardi, S.J, Director General of Vatican Radio, recalled her dance around the central altar at St. Peter’s Basilica on the occasion of the Synod of Asia in 1998, adding that she is probably the only woman in the world who had done that. Besides being a good journalist, she is also a good teacher of Indian dance, he added.
