Pope Francis on Tuesday named Archbishop Joseph Spiteri as Apostolic Nuncio in Ivory Coast. The titular Archbishop of Serta, has been serving as nuncio in Sri Lanka. Archbishop Spiteri was born in Sliema, Malta on the 20th May 1959. He was ordained a priest on the 29th June 1984. He was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Sri Lanka on the 21 February 2009 and elevated to the rank of a titular archbishop. The former nuncio in Ivory Coast, Indian-born Archbishop Ambrose Madtha died in a car accident in December last year, west of the commercial capital Abidjan. He had been nuncio in the West African nation since 2008 and was well known for his commitment to peace and overcoming the 2010 post-election tensions in the country.
