A coadjutor named for Soddo in Ethiopia

Pope Francis has named Fr. Tsegaye Keneni Derera as Coadjutor for the Apostolic vicariate of Soddo in Ethiopia. Abba Tsegaye Derera is of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Addis Ababa and has been serving as general vicar of the Apostolic Vacariate of Nekemte. He will now assume the title of titular bishop of Massimiana di Bizacena. A coadjutor has the right of succession. Abba Tsegaye was born on the 23 of November 1943 and was ordained a priest on the 13 July 1976. The Apostolic Vicariate of Soddo in Ethiopia has a population over 5 million. Catholics are close to 145 thousand divided into 23 parishes and served by 39 priests, 41 sisters and 18 major seminarians. An apostolic vicariate in most cases is a form of territorial jurisdiction in the church established in regions and countries where a diocese has not yet been fully established.
