Pope Francis meets with the President of the European Parliament
Pope Francis on Friday morning met with the president of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz. After the meeting, the native of Aachen, Germany spoke about many issues to Vatican Radio including this one on immigration to the EU following last week’s boat disaster in the Italian island of Lampedusa which claimed over 300 lives. Pope Francis also received in audience on Friday members of Rome’s Jewish community to mark the 70th anniversary of the deportation of the city’s Jewish population during the Nazi occupation. Among those present was the Chief Rabbi of Rome, Dr. Riccardo Di Segni, the President of the Jewish Community of Rome , Dr. Riccardo Pacifici, and the President of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities , Dr. Renzo Gattegna.
