No end to violence against Christians in Karnataka

October 12, 2013 - Hindu ultra-nationalists continue their "brutal and relentless" violence against Christians and churches in the Indian State of Karnataka, alleged Sajan George, president of the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC), who has called on the state Chief Minister Siddaramiah to intervene. The seriousness of the situation is such that the central government acknowledged the situation, defining the Karnataka one of the six states in which extremist forces are targeting minorities for their own political end. Last May, when the state went to vote, nine years of rule of the pro-Hindu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to an end in the state, with the secular Indian National Congress winning the election. Yet, Sajan George noted, attacks on Christians by Hindu extremists intensified with 27 cases recorded in the last 4 month. (Source: AsiaNews)
