Pope names a bishop for Uvira Diocese in the DRC

Pope Francis has named Auxiliary bishop of Kinshasa, Sébastien Muyengo Mulombe as Bishop of the Diocese of Uvira in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Bishop Mulombe was born in Bukavu on the 8th of May 1958 and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Kinshasa on the 1st of August 1986. He was appointed auxiliary of Kinshasa in February last year. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Uvira is located in the country’s South Kivu Province. It was established on 16 of April, 1962 from territory taken from the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Bukavu and Diocese of Kasongo. The diocese has a population of 1,224,000. The Catholic population is around 360,000 served in 18 parishes by 61 priests, 18 male religious and 26 women religious. (Vatican 15 Oct. 2013)
