Holy See signs Agreement with Republic of Chad

The Holy See and the government of Chad signed an agreement on Wednesday in the Chadian capital, Ndjamena. The Holy See was represented by the Apostolic nuncio to Chad, Archbishop Jude Thadeus Okolo , while the Republic of Chad was represented by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat. The agreement recognizes the juridical personality of the Catholic Church and of ecclesiastical institutions, and also outlines the social value of collaboration between church and state for the promotion of the dignity of the human person. The agreement will enter into force after it has been ratified by the two parties and upon the exchange of the instruments of ratification. Chad is mainly a Moslem country but the small catholic church there is active in the fields of education and healthcare.
