Pope Francis sends Contribution to the Philippines to help in Relief Efforts

Pope Francis has sent 150,000 dollars to the Philippines as the first part of his contribution to the relief efforts following a violent typhoon that killed thousands of people and also destroyed houses at the weekend on the islands of Leyte and Samar. The contribution will reach the survivors through the local church in the affected areas. On Sunday during the Angelus the Pope prayed for the victims and also appealed for help for the survivors.
Meanwhile, the Catholic bishops of the Philippines have called for prayers for the dead and survivors of the calamity. The have also appealed for help. Monsignor Pedro Quitorio is the spokesman of the Philippines Catholic Bishops Conference. He describes the situation on the ground. RealAudioMP3
