New Bishop for Manzini, Swaziland

On Friday 29 November, Pope Francis named the Apostolic Vicar of the Ingwavuma in South Africa, Bishop José Luís Gerardo Ponce de León as bishop of the Diocese of Manzini in neighbouring Swaziland. Bishop Ponce de León, a native of Argentina has been serving as apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Manzini, the only diocese in Swaziland. The 52 year-old Consolata Missionary was appointed as Apostolic Vicar of Ingwavuma by pope emeritus Benedict XVI on 24 November 2008. The vicariate was first Established as the Apostolic Prefecture of Ingwavuma in 1962 from the Diocese of Eshowe in South Africa and the Diocese of Manzini in Swaziland which will be marking 100 years since its founding on the 26 of January 2014.
