Pope Francis presides at vespers and prays a hymn of thanksgiving for the end of the year



Pope Francis on Tuesday celebrated the first Vespers of the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, and recited the hymn of thanksgiving to God or Te Deum to mark the end of the civil year 2013.

Pope Francis will on the 1st of January, the Church’s World Day of Peace and the solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God celebrate mass in St. Peter’s Basilica beginning at 10 a.m. Following the mass, at noon, he will greet the faithful in St. Peter’s Square and then recite the Angelus with them.
The Holy Father’s message for the 47th World Day of Peace focuses on the theme: ‘Fraternity: the Foundation and Pathway to Peace’. In a tweet on Tuesday, he called on Christians to draw from the crib the joy and deep peace that Jesus’s birth brings to the world.
“Let us draw from the crib the joy and deep peace that Jesus comes to bring to the world.”
