Pope Francis names a new Archbishop for Tororo in Uganda



Pope Francis on 2nd January accepted the resignation of Archbishop Denis Lote Kiwanuka of the Archdiocese of Tororo in Uganda. The archbishop resigned upon having reached the age limit of 75 for holding that office as set by the Code of Canon Law. Meanwhile, Pope Francis has named the Bishop of Soroti, Emmanuel Obo as his successor.
Pope Francis also named Bishop Obbo as Apostolic Administrator (sede vacante et ad nutum Sactae Sedis) of his former diocese of Soroti.
The Archbishop-elect, a member of the Congregation of the Apostles of Jesus, was born on 7th October 1952 in Nagoke/Kirewa in Uganda. He was ordained a priest for the Apostles of Jesus on 13th December1979. On the 27th June, Pope emeritus Benedict XVI appointed him as bishop of Soroti and received his episcopal ordination on 6th October of the same year.
