An Irish heart to heart

(Vatican Radio) The English Section's intern, Michael Gannon who hails from Kildare, Ireland, interviews his compatriot, Monsignor Paul Tighe, Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.

Good morning, this is Michael reporting from Rome. Today I will be interviewing Monsignor Paul Tighe, the Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications in Rome. Monsignor Tighe was appointed by pope Benedict in November 2007.

He was born in Navan co Meath, Ireland, on 12th of February. He gradiuated from UCD in 1979
with a dregree in law. He then studiied for the preisthood in Clonliffe college Dublin and the Irish college in Rome. He was ordained a priest for the Dublin diocese in 1983,

After his ordination he served in Ballyfermot parish. Monsignor Paul Tighe also lectured in moral theology in the Mater Dei Institute of Education In Dublin and my sister Jenny was one his students in the same college.

In 2004 he was named Director of Communications office in the diocese of Dublin before coming to work in Rome.

I asked hm questions about himself and his work, and why he decided to become a priest. I also asked him if his Council presents the Pope's messages for people with down syndrome in easy to read format...
