Pope Francis on Monday received in private audience the head of state of Samoan, His Highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi.
A communique from the Vatican at the end of their encounter said, during the course of their cordial meeting, the two men focussed on social and economic aspects of the Samoan nation, and on the much appreciated contribution of the Catholic Church in various sectors of the Samoan society, in particular within the field of human promotion.
The Pope and president Efi also exchanged views on the international situation, with particular reference to regional cooperation and to environmental issues that impact on many Pacific nations.
