Australian prelate asks government to cancel offensive show from festival

Feb.05,2014: Archbishop Philip Wilson of Adelaide has asked South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill to remove a show called “Come Heckle Christ” from the upcoming Adelaide Fringe Festival, according to an Adelaide Advertiser report. During the show, a comedian dressed as Jesus invites heckling from the audience. “While I am a strong advocate for freedom of speech and supporter of the arts, I believe this production is extremely offensive to people of anyreligious persuasion and insulting to many South Australians,” said Archbishop Wilson. “It is outrageous and inappropriate for this sort of anti-Christian, blasphemous performance to be included in a public festival,”he added.
