Cardinal John Onaiyekan: Majority of AIDS patients in Nigeria have no access to Antiretroviral Drugs to prolong their Lives

Faith-based organisations which attended an AIDS conference in Rome which was organized last week by Caritas Intarnationalis and the United Nations AIDS agency, UNAIDS, laid down a roadmap aimed at strengthening collaboration and to bringing an end to the HIV/AIDs pandemic. The participants studied how to boost their work in giving life-saving care to marginalised populations in poor countries and also looked at how to increase funding and resources to enable more people to access treatment. Cardinal John Onaiyekan, the Archbishop of Abuja in Nigeria was one of the participants. He told Vatican Radio that few HIV/AIDS patients in Nigeria have access to antiretroviral drugs.
