Pope Francis to celebrate mass at a rehabilitation centre in Rome on Holy Thursday

Pope Francis will on the 17 April celebrate Holy Thursday Mass at a centre that cares for the needy and less privileged beginning a 5.30 p.m. The “Fondazione Don Carlo Gnocchi – Centro Santa Maria della Provvidenza” is located along Via Casal del Marmo in Rome. The pope will preside over the mass in the chapel of the centre to be attended by those being cared for and their family members as well as the staff. The rehabilitation centre, which has 150 beds, is marking its 10th anniversary this year.
Holy Thursday marks the Last Supper, during which Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, to teach them about the importance of service and humbleness.
Last year, Pope Francis washed the feet of 12 inmates at a juvenile detention centre in Rome as he presided at Holy Thursday mass there.
