Bishops of England and Wales promoting Bible knowledge
(Aug.25,2009) A project sponsored by the bishops' conference of England and Wales
has launched a program to generate biblical interest in what it called "tweenagers."
A press release from the conference announced on Monday that the monthly Bible Detectives'
Quiz program, complete with prizes for those who correctly follow the clues, is now
being offered on the Yfaith Web site. This site, which caters to youth aged 11-13,
is an initiative of the Catholic Agency to Support Evangelisation, said an agency
of the bishops' conference. The detective program aims to further learning about Jesus
and to encourage youth to read the Scriptures. The quiz sends young people on a
quest to discover answers to biblical questions such as: "How many times is cheese
mentioned in the Bible? Who was shipwrecked and imprisoned repeatedly? How many loaves
and fish fed three thousand people?" Emily Davis, Yfaith Project Coordinator, stated:
"Engaging young people with the Bible can be a real challenge. "It's really rewarding
to see this age group grow in confidence in using their Bibles as they find out fun
facts, as well as key truths about their faith. The quiz is an ideal tool for evangelization,"
she added.
